POSTERS
TAKE THE OSCAR Another customer is a collector of movie posters, along with the autographs of the actors featured in the films. When he brings in a poster to be framed, it’s not just another movie poster, it is a piece of memorabilia that has special meaning to him because he has met the actor(s) in the film. Too
often we think of posters as “temporary art,” something teenagers and
college students use to cover up walls. But that would be shortsighted to
think of posters in that respect. Depending on your age, think about the posters of the 60’s
and 70’s – these are hot collector items now.
And go even farther back to the old movie posters from the 30’s,
40’s and 50’s – So here are my suggestions regarding posters: Buy posters that have meaning to you and that you enjoy. Consider posters as inexpensive art that may increase in value. Invest in good framing and glass to preserve the color and value of your posters.
Think about posters when you are faced with large scale issues (more about “scale” next month.) In conclusion, use posters as you would any other artwork - as an integral part of your decor and an expression of your personal tastes.
