Chartered in 1796, First Congregational Church was the Northwest Territory's first organized church. Using Rufus Putnam's "Two Horn" plan, the church was dedicated in 1809. In 1905 the first building burned, and this church was built the following year. |
This cemetery was built by the Adena Indians between 800 BC and 100 AD. When the original settlers came to Marietta in 1788, the directors of the Ohio Company designated all mounds in the town as public places and made specific provisions for their preservation.
